Music Theory Classes in Dubai

Understand the language of music - theory classes that make you a better, more confident musician.

About Our Music Theory Classes

Music theory classes at Melody Makers in Dubai are individual and small-group lessons for all ages, supporting Trinity College London and ABRSM exam preparation at our Karama studio and online via Zoom. Students learn notation, harmony, scales, ear training and composition through practical application. Theory students consistently progress faster on their instruments and develop the ability to improvise, compose and play by ear.

Whether you are preparing for the theory component of a Trinity College London examination, supplementing your instrumental studies, or exploring music theory as a subject in its own right, our classes cover notation, rhythm, scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, harmony, form and aural skills. Theory is taught through practical application wherever possible - students learn by doing, not just memorising.

Understanding theory transforms how you approach your instrument. Students who study theory alongside practical lessons consistently progress faster, learn new pieces more efficiently and develop the ability to improvise, compose and play by ear. At Melody Makers, theory is not an afterthought - it is integrated into every instrumental lesson and available as a standalone subject for those who want to go deeper.

What You'll Learn

  • Music notation: reading and writing notes, rests and rhythms
  • Time signatures, bar lines and rhythmic patterns
  • Scales: major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor
  • Key signatures, the circle of fifths and key relationships
  • Intervals: identification, construction and aural recognition
  • Chords: triads, inversions, seventh chords and progressions
  • Basic harmony, part-writing and voice leading
  • Musical form and structure (binary, ternary, rondo, sonata)
  • Ear training: interval recognition, chord identification, melodic dictation
  • Trinity College London theory exam preparation

Why we can price below the Dubai average

  • ·Same Karama location since 1997. Rent was locked in decades before Dubai's commercial property boom. Most new studios in Jumeirah, JLT or Business Bay pay 5-10x our rate and pass that cost to students.
  • ·Family-run, not VC-backed. No investor return targets to hit, no middle-management layer. The savings go back into keeping lessons affordable for UAE families.
  • ·Small class sizes by default, not as an upsell. You get personal attention at the group rate — not a crowded class with a premium 1:1 tier gating the real teaching.
  • ·No hidden fees. No enrolment fee, no recital fee, no annual membership. Pay month-to-month. Exam fees only if you choose to sit Trinity or ABGMVM.
